Alexander Pope

I write about what actually matters

Alexander Pope: To all the women out there that want to be treated equally-I will be...

To all the women out there that want to be treated equally-

I will be willing to respect you if you were respectable, but that isn’t commonly the case. A respectable man is a man that does his job. He fulfills his duties- he takes care of the business aspects of life, he takes care of his woman.

“Behold, I should answer, the natural effect of innocence” (174).

“Dismissing then (those pretty feminine phrases) which the men condescendingly use to soften our slavish dependence…I wish to show that elegance is inferior to virtue” (172)

I’m ashamed to know that a fellow author would write such words. I don’t understand where this mentality comes from, but it truly is unfortunate.

Like I’ve said before- I understand that “…there is little reason to fear that women will acquire to much courage or fortitude; for their apparent inferiority with respect to bodily strength must render them, in some degree, dependent on men…” (173). So yes, women to need the help from men when it comes to making money, due to the nature of most jobs. But our job is not to concentrate on beauty- our job is to be equal!

“How vain are all these glories, all (your) pains, unless good sense preserve what beauty gains?” (2529)

I will take a woman a little more serious if she takes care of herself, much unlike yourself. Which brings me to question, “how shall I, then, your helpless fame defend” (2527) ? No one will take you seriously until you try to do your job.

“Already (I) hear the horrid things they say, Already see you a degraded toast, And all your honor in a whisper lost” (2527)

Are you aware of what people think of you, Ms. Feminist?

Are you aware of what people think of you??

And to be honest, I don’t think it matters that you hate women- I’m not going to be able to change your mind. But, in reality, you’re doing womankind a favor- we don’t want anything to do with you anyways.

It’s ironic that you want to discuss defending fame…..take a look at yourself before you go off judging me.

I’m not that one that needs to be concerned with appearances!!

And where am I on this list?

I agree with you here, Mr. Pope- this list is not what I’d like to see. Although, seeing any of your work here wouldn’t be any more acceptable.

“Boast not my fall…insulting foe!” (2531)

Please, get over yourself.

Please, take your own advice.

Heaven

“Heaven”? Are you serious? Try to tell me women aren’t materialistic……Try to tell me women are equal to men….I spend my time on things that matter, not shoes and shopping.

“…meanwhile I shall content myself with observing, that I cannot discover why, unless they are mortal, females should always be degraded by being made subservient to love or lust” (180)
One materialistic woman does not make us all materialistic. Just like one arrogant, sexist man doesn’t make them all that way.

“Oh, say what stranger cause, yet unexplored, could make a gentle belle reject a lord?” (2515) Your attitude towards me, you know, isn’t particularly attractive.
You may not claim to be materialistic, but you are not above any other person of your gender. And you are certainly not above me or any other person of my gender.

To all the women out there that want to be treated equally-

I will be willing to respect you if you were respectable, but that isn’t commonly the case. A respectable man is a man that does his job. He fulfills his duties- he takes care of the business aspects of life, he takes care of his woman.

Women have two very simple duties. They don’t have to work, they don’t have to deal with people all day only to be disrespected at home. Women must take care of the home- cleaning, cooking, and children raising. How hard can taking care of the home really be? And with such an easy task, you’re left with plenty of time to complete the second duty- be beautiful.

Are we men asking too much? We expect you to act they way you’re meant to act- if you weren’t meant to be beautiful creatures, why would you be created so delicately?

And to those women that don’t fulfill their duties, yet demand respect…….

With your unfortunately tragic appearance, “how shall I, then, your helpless fame defend?” (2527)

 Riddle me that one, Mary.

With my posts, here on Tumblr, I’d like to point out that everything I write is “…intended only to divert a few young ladies, who have good sense and good humor enough to laugh not only at their sex’s little unguarded follies, but at their own” (2514).

And believe me, “I know how disagreeable it is to make use of hard words before a lady” (2514).  So I will try to keep everything simple, just to avoid confusion for my lesser followers.

Enjoy!

Beautiful- just like a woman should be. (And only be!)
